Default removing left of steering wheel cup holder

Is it possible to remove this without damage, with a regular guy toolbox?

I'd like to put my phone here with waze/maps but keep the holder to put it back if needed.

My fit is the 2015, in case that matters.

I've fiddled the side arms back & forth with some force with the holder out. Don't see enough room to stick tools in the side arms to disengage a latch or ledge - especially with the cup holder in the way preventing a stiff tool getting in there.

Same for the bottom hinge - moving it up/down & left/right doesn't disengage anything.

Default Other Options

Why not use a "drink cup phone holder" or "air vent magnetic phone holder"?
Try Googling either.

We have a Honda Fit 2016 and use the latter in one of the middle vents, but I'm sure it would work on the left vent above the cup holder too.

If you remove the outer moving part of the cup holder, how would you attach the phone anyhow?
